About

vision & SERVICES

We help clients deliver high-quality, sustainable and financially viable places to live and work—projects that perform environmentally, support community connection and stand up commercially over time.

Our studio works closely with clients to turn complex briefs into clear, buildable outcomes. We bring deep experience across residential and mixed-use projects, government advisory roles and collaborative practice models, supported by a track record of award-winning work delivered in Australia, China and the USA.

Clients value our personal, hands-on approach, early strategic thinking and our ability to balance design ambition with planning, sustainability and cost realities.

background

Peter brings over 30 years of senior design and leadership experience across architecture and urban design practices in Australia, China and the USA. He has held creative director and leadership roles with internationally recognised firms including Gensler (San Francisco), Architectus (Sydney) and Mitchell Giurgola Thorpe (Canberra).

This experience allows Peter to approach each project with a clear understanding of environmental performance, social outcomes and commercial drivers—helping clients achieve strong design outcomes that are also deliverable and economically sound.

His expertise spans residential living in all its forms, as well as aged care, commercial and health projects.

Governance, Expertise & Industry Leadership

Peter holds professional qualifications in environmental design, architecture and ecologically sustainable development, and has undertaken advanced research into design for climate mitigation and adaptation in collaboration with the University of New South Wales.

He is an active member of multiple design review and excellence panels, including:

  • NSW State Design Review Panel 2000-2025

  • National Capital Design Review Panel

  • Randwick and Ryde Design Excellence Panels

  • Chair, Lane Cove Council Design Excellence and North Sydney Design Excellence Panels

This role gives clients direct access to current approval expectations and decision-maker perspectives, helping reduce risk and improve planning outcomes.

Peter is also a regular mentor to emerging architects and has served on numerous industry award juries, including the 2023 RAIA ACT Chapter Architecture Awards.

RESEARCH & DESIGN THINKING

Our design approach is informed by ongoing research into how outdoor and “in-between” spaces—such as courtyards, laneways and galleries—can improve climate performance, social interaction and urban character.

Peter is currently researching and writing The Secret Life of Courtyards, a study of spatial patterns across diverse climates and urban contexts in Australia. These insights are directly applied to our work through:

  • Courtyard-based housing models

  • Vertical verandahs and shared outdoor spaces

  • Fine-grain laneways and public domain design in inner-city developments

For clients, this research translates into more livable buildings, better environmental performance and stronger planning outcomes—not just theory, but proven design intelligence
